Ocean Shores Fun Times and reflections

Joanne and I are having an excellent time on this trip. We are exploring the area, sampling the good foods at the eating establishments and talking a lot about our dreams and experiences. In general, we are forming a lasting bond to carry us into the future.

Our exploring the area included driving through the neighborhoods, some on the beach, others on “Duck Lake”, and some on a canal that drains the wetlands. The main streets in town have an available drain area between the two lanes. I would imagine a heavy rain would make for wet feet! The houses range from pretty high end to lots you can improve and camp on for 90 days per year. There was a big storm approaching and many deer were out browsing for food. All of the deer appeared to be well nourished because their ribs don’t show.

Sampling Foods

Mike’s Seafood – razor clams overcooked so much they had burnt edges. Even the locals don’t recommend this place, but their website made them sound like a good place to eat.

Galway Bay Irish Restaurant & Pub – The January music festival is featured on their current website. In October 2018 the Galway Bay Irish Restaurant & Pub is sponsoring the Galway Bay Celtic Music Festival. Joanne and I have made reservations to stay here in October for that festival. Their food is excellent as is their service. What struck us first was the ambivalence. You enter through the gift shop, then enter an Irish themed pub with many interesting things to look at. We had Pan Fried Oysters for an appetizer: Seafood Crumble and Bangers & Mash for our entrees. Very excellent food.

Home Port Restaurant – Their Chicken Fried Steak and Ham Steak and Eggs were both very good breakfast items. Their razor clams for dinner were good too. The locals seem to like this place.

Breakwater Seafood & Chowder House – This was a place recommended by the maintenance person at Windjammer Condominiums where we spent 7 days. The outstanding item he recommended was Calamari and Chips. The calamari was like a fish stick about 4″ long and around 3/16″ on each side. This is a very delicious way to eat calamari. Their deep fried oysters were pretty good too!

Quinault Beach Resort and Casino – We ate here twice. We had unlimited Dungenous crab one night, each consuming 1.5 crabs. The other meal was their “Hawk’s Cut” Prime Rib for $8.99

We are going to one last meal at Galway Bay Irish Restaurant & Pub tonight. We need to leave early Friday morning to get to St. Helens to meet the carpet steam cleaner at 1300 to clean all the carpets in my home in St. Helens. This has been such a wonderful adventure. Many more to come!
